Cinnamon Sugar Cookies - Venezuelan Polvorosas

These round little cookies were a staple of birthday parties growing up in Venezuela. They are called polvorosas, which loosely means dusty ones as they are very crumbly and sugary! 

Yields: Approximately 20 cookies

Ingredients:

  • 125 g vegetable shortening

  • 125 g sugar

  • 250 g all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Powdered sugar for decorating

 


 

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven:

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Make the dough:

    • Measure the vegetable shortening, sugar, and all-purpose flour into a mixing bowl.

    • Add the ground cinnamon.

    • Beat the mixture until it pulls away from the sides of the bowl and forms a cohesive dough.

  3. Shape the cookies:

    • Roll the dough into small balls and shape them carefully as desired.

  4. Bake:

    • Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes.

  5. Cool and decorate:

    • Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool completely.

    • Sprinkle them with powdered sugar before serving.
