Garcia Nevett Takes Miami to National TV in GMA’s “United States of Hot Cocoa”

When Good Morning America set out on its “United States of Hot Cocoa” tour, the mission was simple (and delicious): spotlight standout small businesses making unforgettable cups of hot chocolate—then bring the finalists together for a head-to-head finale. On January 28, the journey landed in Miami and put Garcia Nevett in the national spotlight.

One of four finalists—chosen from across the country

Garcia Nevett was selected as one of four businesses to compete for the title of “Best Hot Chocolate in America,” representing South Florida alongside finalists from Los Angeles, Detroit, and Chicago.

In the live finale, the four featured shops were introduced on-air as:

  • Mindy's Bakery (Chicago)

  • El Moro (Los Angeles)

  • The Roost (Detroit)

  • Garcia Nevett (Miami)

That kind of lineup makes the takeaway clear: Garcia Nevett wasn’t just featured—it was recognized on a national stage as one of the country’s best.

The cup that carried our heritage: Venezuelan chocolate, cardamom, and honey

Garcia Nevett’s hot cocoa stood out for what it represents: a love letter to Venezuelan cacao and the Miami flavors that make it sing.

During the finale, Isabel shared the build: crushed cardamom pods infused into milk, then Venezuelan chocolate—described on-air as a premium 60% dark chocolate—melted into a rich sipping cocoa and sweetened with Florida's own tupelo honey. It's a recipe based on one of their award-winning bonbons.

And the judges tasted it. On the broadcast, one reaction said it all: the flavors were “so unique,” with the honey and cardamom landing as a true chef’s kiss.

A Miami moment—built by two sisters and a bold idea

Behind every great cup is a story, and Garcia Nevett’s begins at home.

As sisters and co-founders Susana and Isabel have shared, they started the business to bring Venezuelan chocolate culture to South Florida—because, as Isabel put it, “We’re from Venezuela… and we wanted to bring that to Miami.”

That mission showed up on national television not as a marketing line, but as an ingredient-level truth: cacao-forward chocolate, thoughtful aromatics, and a finish that feels both comforting and elevated.

The finale: celebrating craftsmanship (and a very tough decision)

The “United States of Hot Cocoa” finale brought celebrity judges together to taste each finalist and choose a winner.

With $10,000 and bragging rights on the line, the panel called it a difficult decision—and ultimately crowned Mindy’s Bakery the winner.

But here’s the bigger story for Garcia Nevett: being chosen as a finalist and showcased coast-to-coast is the kind of earned recognition that can’t be manufactured. It’s proof that Miami belongs in the national hot chocolate conversation—even when the temperatures don’t always cooperate.
